This is a side event to the United Nations Food Systems Summit (taking place on September 23, 2021). This session will feature some of the co-authors of a forthcoming call for a rigorous, science-based monitoring framework to track food systems and their transformation.
In 2021, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will convene a Food Systems Summit as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The Summit will launch bold new actions to deliver progress on all 17 SDGs, each of which relies to some degree on healthier, more sustainable and equitable food systems.
We are launching The Zero Hunger, Nourish the Future Pledge for the private sector on Tuesday, September 21. This is a unique opportunity for companies and investment funds to align their investments with new evidence and commitments by donors, governments, and global institutions to end hunger and nourish the future by 2030.
In this webinar, we shall focus on the opportunities for the adoption of biofortified crops by SMEs and experience sharing of some of the businesses associated with biofortification. This webinar will generate awareness and interest amongst the food processors, retail markets including digital marketplaces and associated businesses in the biofortified foods supply chain.
This session will listen to the priorities of member states, review the current state of food insecurity, showcase some of the potential solutions emerging from the Summit, and introduce an emerging Coalition of Action to End Hunger that aims to align and mobilise resources to support national action to end hunger by 2030.
Almost a year ago, the Food Systems Dashboard, the first dashboard that collects country-level data across all components of the food system, was launched. Today, the Dashboard contains over 200 indicators that measure components, drivers, and outcomes of food systems at the country level.
The Special Annual Meeting 2021 in Singapore will be the first global leadership event to address worldwide recovery from the pandemic. This in-person meeting will bring together leaders to focus on shaping solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
The ambition of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit is to launch a collective journey of transforming our food systems to give us the best possible chance of delivering on the 2030 agenda. Everyone has a role to play in this. Only by coming together and challenging one another we can spark new ideas and create meaningful impact.
Following opening remarks by the moderator, panelists will be invited to address the guiding questions (see below). Following these interventions, Member States, observers and civil society are encouraged to ask questions or raise issues in response to the interventions made.
Action Track 1 (AT1) strives to identify game-changing ideas to transform food systems and achieve the goal of ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all. This second Public Forum will focus on our current thinking of some our game-changing ideas relevant to AT1 and present a platform to engage with, connect, and listen to your reflections on where we stand.
