We are delighted to announce that in the first New Year Honours List of King Charles III, Dr Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), has been made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for "services to International Nutrition, Food and Agriculture".
This is an award reserved for overseas and international work that honours individuals who have rendered important services in relation to Commonwealth or foreign nations. The Order's motto is "Token of a better age".
Dr Lawrence Haddad knows, firsthand, about the impact poor nutrition can have and the urgent need to fix food systems. He moved to the UK from South Africa with his family when he was two. They lived on welfare benefits, and the local authority paid for his school meals and his uniform. He has been the Executive Director of GAIN since October 2016 and has been involved in the world of food economics and nutrition ever since he obtained a first-class undergraduate degree in 1980. Find out more about him here.
GAIN's Board and staff offer congratulations to Lawrence on this award and appreciate his continuing global leadership around nutrition and food systems.
