The 4th Global Foresight4Food Workshop will be held on June 3 - 7, 2024 at BRAC CDM Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event will be hosted by the government of Bangladesh along with the Foresight4Food Initiative (Oxford University and Wageningen University & Research) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the government of the Netherlands, in association with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), and The World Bank.
GAIN, in partnership with the Netherlands government, IFAD, Foresight4Food Initiative with Oxford University, and Wageningen University & Research is implementing the Foresight for Food Systems Transformation (FoSTr) program in Bangladesh involving 18 ministries, the private sector, and 5 research partners. Foresight scenario analysis can help Bangladesh to explore the potential food system future and identify necessary steps to accomplish major goals for a more sustainable and equitable food system to inform SDGs and pathways to realise the Bangladesh Vision 2041. This is in line with the priorities and commitments expressed by the H.E. the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in September 2021 at UNGA and at UNFSS+2 Stocktaking Moments (STM) in Rome in July 2023.
This edition of the Global Foresight4Food Workshop brings together foresight leaders, innovators, and food systems change-makers from around the world. The event aims to strengthen the connections between science, policy, and practice. It will focus on advancing the integration of foresight into the political and social contexts of decision-making, driving transformative changes in food systems.
The workshop will feature interactive discussions, case presentations, and strategic sessions on various themes such as policy and finance. It will explore effective tools for foresight analysis and modelling, and provide policy recommendations for future transformation. The theme for this year’s workshop is “Reframing Food Futures: Making Foresight Transformative”
The objective of this workshop is to:
- Strengthen the international community of foresight practitioners, users, researchers, and food system experts. Collectively seeking to identify opportunities for enhancing the use of foresight in food systems transformation initiatives.
- Deepen the understanding of effective foresight approaches, methods, and tools. And to explore how these foresight approaches and methods can be applied to food systems transformation.
- Explore how foresight and scenario analysis can be most effective in contributing to societal understanding, policy, innovation, and systemic change.
Apart from playing the lead role in organising the five-day workshop, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) will be also leading the following sessions:
