Food Systems Transformation and Climate Change: Collaborative Action and Measuring Success
Ice Stadion Davos, Tuesday, 16 January, 2024, 09:15-11:45 CET
Since the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, there's a global urgency for sustainable, resilient food systems, heightened by issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts, climate change, and growing inequalities. Food systems are major contributors to pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss. Integrating food systems strategies into national policies is essential, focusing on nutrition, health, economic growth, and climate action. A Technical Collaboration Collaborative was established to support this initiative, aligning efforts and tracking progress. The private sector plays a crucial role in this transformation, with progress assessments including the sustainability of the agri-food industry. The focus is on collaborative, sustainable food system initiatives, measuring transformation progress, and the interplay between food systems and climate policy. Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of GAIN will be part of an expert panel, talking about operationalising global efforts, implementing the UNFSS and Emirates Declaration commitments, and evaluating progress from different stakeholders' viewpoints.
