Food systems and urban planning: global and national perspectives


On 23 March, 7:30-9:30 AM CET, the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, in collaboration with GAIN are hosting the Food Systems and Urban Planning: Global and National Perspectives webinar. 

This webinar aims to share experiences from the Indonesian context, discuss and examine the importance of food systems and urban planning from global and national perspectives. Further, recommended directions of how city government and stakeholders at all levels should integrate food systems into urban planning will be shared. 

The webinar will address three main questions:

  1. What are the current issues and challenges with regard to food systems in urban settings?
  2. How do global and national stakeholder address the challenges of sustainable food systems at urban and regional level?
  3. What approaches and strategies are applied to integrate food systems into urban planning?

 
The webinar is open to stakeholders from national and sub-national governments, non-government actors, e.g. private developers, professional associations, civil society organizations, academia, and international organizations.

GAIN’s Urban Governance for Nutrition Programme Lead Sharelle Polack will take part in the panel discussion and discuss the importance of food environment approach in understanding urban food system and how the potential of city governments can be unlocked to influence urban nutrition.
