Dr. Kate Schneider

Senior Research Data Analyst, Berman Institute of Bioethics, Johns Hopkins University


Kate is an applied microeconomist and public health nutritionist whose research focuses on food policy and economics related to poverty, nutrition, and welfare outcomes. She recently completed her PhD in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, where her dissertation focused on access to and the affordability of healthy diets for whole families in Malawi. Prior to Tufts, Kate spent five years at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a program officer in agricultural development. Her work there involved a wide range of issues including gender, food systems, nutrition, environment, data, policy research, evaluation, and measurement.

Kate holds a Master of Public Administration and a Certificate in International Development from the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington where she conducted food, agriculture, and development policy research. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is in Sociology from McGill University. Outside of work, Kate is a dedicated practitioner of yoga, spends a lot of time reading, and loves to cook, garden, and spend time with her family, friends, and puppy Arbie.
